Economic self-sufficiency

There are few jobs available in the outside world for the Huichols, many of whom only speak Huichol, are illiterate and have no marketable skills. Many wind up as migrant field laborers far from their homeland, or as beggars.
The Huichol Center's "Hand-crafts, Not Hand-Outs Project" creates culturally relevant jobs for Huichols in their home communities. Beads of Beauty is a result of this project, which teaches artisans refined skills and reduces mass migration to the outside world.

The Huichols become skilled entrepeneurs able to generate income for their families and in turn, create economic self-sufficiency in their own communities.
